ARSENAL are licking their wounds after a confidence-sapping defeat in the FA Cup third round to Nottingham Forest.

In transfer news, the Gunners are set for a battle for the return of Aaron Ramsey, with Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Everton all interested in the Welsh midfielder.

Elsewhere, Dusan Vlahovic, 21, remains a target for Mikel Arteta, but the Gunners would need to get rid of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang first.

And Arsenal are also monitoring the situation of Lille midfielder Renato Sanches.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles' loan switch to Jose Mourinho's Roma has been confirmed, six months after the versatile midfielder's social media plea to be let go.

    Outspoken Arsenal fan Piers Morgan says the club should give their unattached former midfielder Jack Wilshire a contract to ease their midfield woes.

    The Gunners have been left short in central midfield due to Africa Cup of Nations call-ups for Ghana’s Thomas Partey and Egypt’s Mohamed Elneny.

    Sun columnist Morgan tweeted: “Would love to see @JackWilshire back in an Arsenal shirt.

    “Spoke to him recently and he’s fit, training well and desperate to get playing again.”

    Schick plays down Arsenal rumours

    Patrick Schick has poured cold water on rumours of a possible Gunners move, according to reports.

    The Bayer Leverkusen striker has been linked with a potential switch to Arsenal or Tottenham.

    The Czech international, 24, has notched up 17 goals in 15 Bundesliga games this term.

    Schick told German news outlet Bild: "Of course, it’s nice to read when you are associated with the big clubs.

    "But I’m really, really happy in Leverkusen and want to go to the Champions League with Bayer.

    The Press Association claims the left-back, 28, could be on his way out with his contract set to expire at the end of this season.

    And for the ex-West Ham and Liverpool right-back says he can see why the versatile winger is attracting Anfield interest.

    Mikel Arteta has admitted to admiring Leicester City's Youri Tielemans amid transfer rumours surrounding the midfielder.

    The Belgium star has less than 18 months left of his four-year contract following his Foxes move in 2019.

    Leicester have been in negotiations with the midfielder who is yet to sign a new deal with the King Power giants.

    And CBS sports journalist Ben Jacobs suggests Arteta is thought to be keen on the player.

    Jacobs told The Arsenal Way's The Gooner Talk podcast: “I do know that Arteta admires Tielemans, so it is just one to watch to see if it gathers pace over the coming two or three weeks.

    "Liverpool are not interested in him, no bid, not looking at him. Definitely not on their radar for January.

    “But I don’t see Tielemans staying at Leicester, and if they want a fee for him, somebody has the opportunity to come in for him in January with a big offer and try and wrestle him. He wants to stay in the Premier League.”

    Gabon are confident Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be available to face Ghana in an Africa Cup of Nations duel.

    The Arsenal forward missed the Panthers' opening game after testing positive for Covid-19. The team beat Comoros 1-0 in the match on Monday.

    On Monday Gabon boss Patrice Neveu told ESPN: "His morale is ok, and in the face of this virus, we don't really have a choice.

    "He's doing exercises in his hotel room, he's able to work on an exercise bike, he's doing sessions.

    "We have four days (until the Ghana match) so we're hopeful, he doesn't have any fever and we're hoping that he tests negative."

    According to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, terms and clauses have all been agreed between Arsenal and Boro.

    He adds that Balogun will undergo his medical tomorrow.

    And when this formality is completed, the 20-year-old will be announced as a Middlesbrough player.
