Arsenal news: Sol Campbell in line to be fast-tracked into England coaching set-up after being invited to join Under-21s

Former Three Lions defender and skipper Campbell, 44, was contacted by under-21 boss Aidy Boothroyd ahead of the friendlies with Germany and Italy.

Boothroyd’s side are on the brink of confirming their place at next summer’s European Championship Finals.

They need just a solitary point from this month’s games with Andorra and Scotland.

But with the FA keen to ensure BME representation at all levels of the England coaching structure, Campbell has been given a chance to show he can be a longer-term part of Boothroyd’s team.

Campbell has been frustrated at the lack of the full-time coaching job he believes he deserves to be offered.

But ex-Arsenal and Tottenham star sees the games as an opportunity to demonstrate his passion and acumen.

He said: “I’ve been asked to go and work with Aidy for the friendlies and I’ve accepted that.
