Arsenal news LIVE: Gabriel trolls Aubameyang, Chelsea win reaction, Gunners scout January transfer targets – updates | The Sun

ARSENAL secured a win at Stamford Bridge to reclaim top spot of the Premier League

The Gunners won 1-0 through Gabriel's tap-in – but Mikel Arteta's side were by far the better side at Stamford Bridge.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was kept quiet in a Chelsea shirt as well, as the Blues failed to catch fire.

And Gabriel rubbed salt into the wound by trolling Aubameyang with a "Nothing personal… London is red" tweet.

Bukayo Saka also played a big part in the game after his injury scare and looks to be in tip-top shape for the World Cup.

Mikel Arteta will surely get cash to spend in the January transfer window to try and bolster his options for the title-chasing Gunners.

    £57million Mud bath

Arsenal remain interested in Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk, according to Fabrizio Romano.

In his column for CaughtOffside, Romano said: “For sure Arsenal remain interested, they are following him for a long time but there’s still nothing decided.”

“Shakhtar Donetsk want more than €60-65million (£53m-57m) to sell him now and it’s not easy. The race is open, if Arsenal really want him they have to move fast.”

    Feeling blue

Chelsea star Kai Havertz has been slammed for his “lazy” effort in stopping Arsenal’s winner at Stamford Bridge.

Mikel Arteta’s side returned to top spot in the Premier League with a 1-0 victory over the Blues on Sunday after Gabriel tapped home Bukayo Saka’s corner.

Afterwards it was Havertz who came in for fierce criticism as he was accused of not doing enough defensively to prevent it.

Arsenal legend Martin Keown said on BT Sport : “Kai Havertz has got to do better there.

“He swings a lazy leg at that.”

Recently axed Bournemouth manager Scott Parker also added: “You’re always massively disappointed when you concede from a set-piece.

“Arsenal are certainly good at scoring set-piece goals and that’s something we prepped for [before Fulham’s 2-1 defeat at the Emirates in August].”

HAPPY MONDAY TO ALL YOU GOONERS

Mikel Arteta has admitted that Arsenal are in a title race.

The Gunners saw off Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to go back to the top of the Premier League.

And although Arteta has talked down Arsenal’s chances of winning the title this season, he has finally confessed that his side could challenge Man City.

“We are today,” Arteta said. “But in football, today and tomorrow is very different. So let’s enjoy the time.

“Do something: just look at the last six years, what Manchester City have done. With the best manager in the world, the best team in the world. They have shown it consistently in every single competition. We have to be very, very respectful of that.

“We are getting much better as a team and competing much better. We are getting really good results right now, but this is a long, long [season].”

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had his “nothing personal” comment brutally thrown back in his face by Arsenal star Gabriel Magalhaes.

Gabriel trolled his former team-mate on Twitter after the Gunners beat Chelsea 1-0 on Sunday.

It was Aubameyang’s first game against Arsenal since leaving for Barcelona in January following a bust up with boss Mikel Arteta.

After returning to the Premier League in the summer with Chelsea, Aubameyang said ahead of the game: “Arsenal, nothing personal. I’m back. I’m blue. I’m ready. Let’s go.”

That was before the 33-year-old managed just EIGHT touches of the ball against the Gunners.

He was hooked in the 64th minute after firing a blank against his former employers.

And Gabriel wasn’t afraid to remind Aubameyang of his comment immediately after the final whistle.

He wrote on Twitter: “NOTHING PERSONAL .. LONDON IS RED.”

Petr Cech has signed for ice hockey side Chelmsford Chieftains.

The former Chelsea and Arsenal star left Guildford Phoenix earlier this year after three years with the Surrey outfit.

Cech has joined the Chieftains on a one-year deal and his signing was announced ahead of the game against Oxford City Stars on Sunday.

The former goalkeeper, 40, made 20 appearances for Phoenix between 2019-2022 and helped them win the treble last year.

That included the NIHL Division Two South title, with Cech now playing in the tier above.

It means the ex-Czech Republic international will goaltend in the NIHL Division One South for the first time in his career.

    Captain speaks

Martin Odegaard was full of praise of his team-mates for recording a dominant win over rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

“I think it was a big win,” he told Arsenal Media after the game.

“I think we deserved the win and we controlled the game.

“We were the more dominant team throughout the whole game, and we got the goal in the end. The way we protected the box, and the goal after that, and also the smartness we have on the ball to keep it in difficult situations.

“This is the way we want to play, you know? Also away from home, to be able to control these games and be the more dominant team.”

    Cucurella's bizarre Xhaka hug

Chelsea fans were left baffled by Marc Cucurella's bizarre defending for Arsenal's winner.

The Blues suffered back-to-back Premier League defeats with Gabriel poking home from a corner to give his side a 1-0 win.

The centre-back was left unmarked as he tapped in Buakyo Saka's corner with Thiago Silva losing track of his Brazilian compatriot.

But fans noticed Cucurella failed to clear the danger despite the ball curling closely past him.

Footage emerged showing the Spaniard was too preoccupied with marking Granit Xhaka, but weirdly stood still hugging the Swiss to stop him from reaching the ball.

Some fans found Cucurella's defending strange or amusing while others were more critical of the former Brighton star.

    Jesus' value to Arsenal

Rio Ferdinand has spelled out what Gabriel Jesus means to this Arsenal side.

"I don’t think he’s been bought to score 30 plus goals,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“People are going to keep talking about goals, but he brings so much value that I’d argue, there wouldn’t be a bigger drop off if he left the team bar William Saliba.

'You could make the same argument for Saliba maybe but he's so important to Arsenal and what they're doing."

    Mari ovation

Pablo Mari was welcomed back at Monza after being stabbed in a random attack last week.

The on-loan Arsenal star was stabbed in the back and airlifted to hospital following the incident in Milan, Italy.

Mari underwent surgery the following day and is now recovering from his injuries.

The centre-back is expected to be out for around two months but he was fit enough to greet the Monza crowd on Sunday ahead of their Serie A match against Verona.

Mari had his left arm in a sling but he was able to wave at his fans while also shaking hands with manager Raffaele Palladino.

He later removed his sling before walking onto the pitch where he hugged his team-mates.

    Can't Stop Winning

As though victory away at Chelsea is not enough, Gunners fans have further reasons to celebrate.

Arsenal women are currently battering Leicester 4-0 away from home with the result sending Jonas Eidevall's side to the top of the WSL.

Manchester United will look to respond later when they take on Chelsea.

    Take Xhak

It all got a bit tasty at the end of the London derby as Granit Xhaka got into it with multiple Chelsea players in front of the away end.

Trevoh Chalobah and Matteo Kovacic both went head-to-head with the Swiss as they fought for the ball in the final stages of the Stamford Bridge clash.

Fair to say the Arsenal fans absolutely loved it. Read all about the scrap here.

    Gun Salute

They keep on finding a way to win. They keep on staying top of the table.

And now you have to say it – Mikel Arteta and his men ARE serious, the real deal.

While the Gunners have beaten Spurs and Liverpool at home, they self-combusted on their previous proper away test at Old Trafford.

But while there was a degree of fortune about Gabriel’s second half winner at Stamford Bridge, and Arteta may be starting to sweat a little over Gabriel Jesus’ nine-match goalless run, this was a test passed with flying colours to send a message up to Pep Guardiola and the Etihad.

Arteta’s team are easy on the eye and a good watch for anybody – except the manager, who puts himself through an emotional wringer standing a couple of feet outside his technical area.

    Snatch and Gab

Gabriel’s goal gave Arsenal another huge three points as they took a big victory away at Chelsea.

It was a scrappy game and neither played their best but Arsenal were the better team throughout and deserved the win.

    What a Win

It's three wins in a row for the Gunners away at Chelsea now with the Blues looking toothless and hapless in front of goal.

    Goal from Gabriel

Arsenal have the lead at Stamford Bridge and are currently heading back to the top of the Premier League.

Gabriel converted Bukayo Saka's brilliant corner to hand the Gunners control of this match just after the hour mark and now it's all about whether Arsenal can hang on as they bring reinforcements off the bench.

    HT – Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal

It’s 0-0 after 45 minutes between Chelsea and Arsenal in a game that’s had plenty of energy and endeavour but has lacked quality in the final third.

A close-range back post header from Gabriel Jesus was the closest either team came.

But the game has had plenty of needle with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang booked after a tasty tackle on former teammate Ben White.

While Marc Cucurella and Bukayo Saka have been having their own private battle down the right, with Saka booked for the Gunners.

    He's Auba It

Graham Potter has insisted Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has no hang-ups over his acrimonious departure from Arsenal.

The striker is set to play against the Gunners for the first time since falling out with Mikel Arteta last season.

But Potter insists there's no hard feelings there.

Speaking to BT Sport before the game, the Chelsea boss said: "He's never spoken negatively to me about Arsenal. He has a lot of respect for them for what they did for them and his career and now he wants to do well for us."
