ARSENE WENGER is set for a sensational return to management with AC Milan, according to reports.
The former Arsenal boss has been without work since leaving the Gunners in May 2018.
Milan's current boss Marco Giampaolo is on the brink of the sack after a disastrous start to the season.
Their latest 3-1 defeat at home to Fiorentina leaves them 16th in Serie A with just two wins from their opening six matches.
The pressure has also been heightened on Giampaolo with fierce rivals Inter Milan sitting top of the table with six straight victories.
According to Gazzetta, Milan have already lined up Wenger and believe he could be the technician that takes them back to the big time.
His chances of returning to management are also boosted by the fact that Ivan Gazidis, who worked alongside Wenger for years at Arsenal, is Milan's Chief Executive.
Wenger, 69, was previously linked with the San Siro job in the summer and there is a growing feeling that the club made a mistake by turning him down in favour of Giampaolo.
Former Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri is also in the running alongside Luciano Spalletti.
Allegri, who managed Milan for three-and-a-half years until January 2014, left Juventus after winning his fifth straight league title in 2019.
Spalletti would remain a hugely controversial choice having received the sack by Inter in May.
