Arsenal fans blast Stephan Lichtsteiner after all three of Man City's goals come from his side

The Gunners were downed by a Sergio Aguero hat-trick after a relatively decent all-round performance was ruined by all-too familiar weaknesses at the back.

And fuming Gooners too to social media to pin the blame on their Swiss international defender, 35, following the 3-1 defeat.

A number of fans even called for forgotten man Carl Jenkinson – recently prevented from leaving on loan –  to get a look in at right-back in the wake of Lichtsteiner's error-strewn display.

@SimonHep89 tweeted: "Carl Jenkinson is twice the player Lichtsteiner is".

While @SubuerbanGoonerChris added: "Can we all admit that Carl Jenkinson would be a better option than Lichtsteiner?"

And @Gunnervision quipped: "Wouldn’t ask Lichtsteiner to watch my cat, let alone watch Sterling’s run. And I don’t even have a cat."

All three of Aguero's goals came from attacks down City's left flank as players were allowed too much room to operate.

Raheem Sterling skipped past Lichtsteiner far too easily for the second and third goals in particular.

And former Arsenal and England star Alex Scott called out the "half-a***d" full-back at half-time.

The Sky Sports pundit said: “He doesn’t know whether to go and close down his player and he’s leaving it half-a***d.

“And that’s why between him and [Alex] Iwobi they’re getting popped around down this side.”

Arsenal's defeat sees their recent slide continue and their chances of a top-four finish take a big hit – especially with Chelsea and Manchester United both winning this weekend.

First-choice right-back Hector Bellerin has undergone knee surgery and will be out for the rest of the season in a huge loss.
