Arsenal confirm £8m signing of David Luiz from Chelsea on two-year contract – The Sun

ARSENAL have confirmed the shock signing of David Luiz from rivals Chelsea for £8million.

The Brazilian, who will wear the number 23 jersey, has penned a two-year deal with the Gunners after leaving Stamford Bridge for a second time.

Luiz, 33, passed a medical at London Colney this morning before signing on the dotted line.

Unai Emery said: "David has huge experience and I look forward to working with him again. He is a well known player and adds to our defensive strength."

Arsenal desperately needed another centre-half after the £4.6m departure of Laurent Koscielny.

And the Samba star emerged as the ideal replacement in a dramatic final 48 hours of the transfer window.

Chelsea re-signed the player for £32m from PSG in 2016, who he spent two years at following his original three season spell with the Blues.

He became an integral part of Maurizio Sarri's plans last term but looked unlikely to get regular action under new manager Frank Lampard.

Furious Chelsea fans reacted by bombarding Luiz's London restaurant, Babbo, with scathing one-star reviews.

The Blues boss has decided he can get by with the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta and youngster Fikayo Tomori.

And the ex-Benfica defender skipped training yesterday in order to try and force his exit.

Luiz only signed a new two-year contract in May at Chelsea, but the club decided to cash in after Arsenal declared their interest.
