Arsenal agree three-year deal with transfer guru Monchi after he quits Roma

The 50-year-old Spaniard quit as Roma’s sporting director today following the sacking of coach Eusebio di Francesco.

And he has wasted no time sorting out his next move following the offer from Arsenal to oversee their backroom shake-up.

Monchi was personally recommended by Unai Emery after the pair successfully co-operated at Sevilla.

He will work alongside head of football operations Raul Sanllehi organising the club’s transfer activity following the resignation of head of recruitment Sven Mislintat last month.

And his imminent arrival at the Emirates means he will be able to begin identifying potential new signings before the transfer window opens in June.

The appointment could be confirmed by Arsenal as early as this weekend.

Monchi made his name during his 17 year spell with Sevilla before he joined Roma in April 2017.

He has left the Italian club slumped at fifth in the Serie A and Claudio Ranieri has now taken over as the new manager.

His time with Roma did not go to plan and fans accused him of "wrecking the team" after they crashed out of the Champions League this week.
