Antonio Valencia close to leaving Manchester United on a free transfer due to clause in his contract

The Ecuador star, who has captained the side regularly under Jose Mourinho, can sign a pre-contract elsewhere at the start of March.

Valencia’s deal runs out at the end of the season but United have an option to extend his nine-year stay by another 12 months.

However United’s money men have to commit to that by March 1 or the winger turned right-back, 33, is free to negotiate with a new team.

There is interest from German and Turkish clubs and any decision to sign a mid-season deal could further disrupt a difficult campaign for the club.

And while a dozen United stars are out of contract at the end of the season, Valencia’s case is different.

But after being one of the first names on the teamsheet Valencia has doubts about his future.
