Anthony Joshua to face Andy Ruiz in November or December rematch in UK after invoking clause in contract after shock loss

ANTHONY JOSHUA will rematch Andy Ruiz Jr in November or December invoking a clause in his contract, promoter Eddie Hearn revealed.

Ruiz scored a modern day sporting upset as he shocked the world by dethroning British superstar Joshua on his US debut.

Promoter Hearn revealed former WBA, IBF and WBO champ Joshua will exercise his rematch clause and fight newly crowned titlist Ruiz in the winter.

Eddie Hearn said: “AJ got sloppy.

“He got caught and never recovered.

“AJ will be back – we'll make the rematch in the UK in November or December.”

After dropping the 25/1 heavy underdog challenger with a mighty left hook in round two Joshua was then floored after going on the attack.

Ruiz landed a left hook before bundling the Watford ace to the deck.

As AJ was in survival mode Ruiz again had the champion on the floor with the bell just about saving the 29-year-old unified champion.

Joshua was again shaken in round three as he looked to regain his composure but continued to box with caution in rounds four and five.

At the end of the fifth Joshua even asked trainer Robert McCracken what round it was before questioning why he was so gassed out in the next stanza.

Ruiz completed the unthinkable in round seven as he again dropped the Brit twice before the referee called off the contest.

After the win Ruiz said: “This is what I've been dreaming about. I've made my dreams come true.

“I just thank god so much. I've got that Mexican blood in me.”
