Anthony Joshua clear to fight Deontay Wilder or Dillian Whyte as IBF confirm decision on facing mandatory

Both of those two have fights upcoming – Wilder of course defends his belt against Tyson Fury on December 1 in the US.

And on December 22 Whyte will go toe-to-toe in a rematch against bruiser Dereck Chisora.

But providing both secure victories the bookies believe they will, AJ will be the light at the end of the tunnel.

Joshua holds the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO heavyweight world titles, with Wilder having the only other one, the WBC version.

So the prospect of a unification fight between the two would provide the most interest to boxing fans – as well as the governing bodies.

As reported by talkSPORT, the IBF won't be ordering Joshua to fight their mandatory challenger, Kubrat Pulev.

The Bulgarian bagged that spot after defeating Hughie Fury, cousin of Tyson, last month in Sofia.

But it is believed the WBO will be in pole position to order their mandatory – and with Whyte the No1 contender.

But as a unification fight would take precedence, Joshua and Wilder better crack on with actually agreeing terms for a fight.

SunSport reported last week how Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn revealed AJ could fight a "wildcard" opponent.

Hearn announced back in July that Joshua, 30, would fight at Wembley Stadium on April 13, 2019.

Hearn told IFL TV: “(There’s) lots going on. Lots going on. Loads. I’m not going to tell you because you’ll find out in due course.

“Would it be a shock to everyone else? Yes…“It might be Deontay Wilder, or Dillian Whyte, it might be a wildcard. It might be, it might not be.”
