Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will play through sprained knee

Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will be playing with a sprained knee this weekend against Missouri, but coach Nick Saban isn't too worried.

"He did put a brace on it just to kind of protect him," Saban said at Wednesday's news conference. "But he's been able to do all of the work in practice, so that's not an issue."

Tagovailoa has thrown for 1,495 yards, 18 touchdowns and no interceptions this season for the 6-0 Crimson Tide. His quarterback rating is 258.4 as Alabama has outscored opponents 336-96.

A bigger concern for Alabama against 3-2 Missouri is the absence of cornerback Trevon Diggs with a broken foot.

“It’s going to be an extended period of time," Saban said. "What he has is going to take awhile (to heal). I’d be surprised if he’s able to come back by the end of the season.”

Diggs, a junior, is one of the most experienced players on the Tide defense and led the team with six passes defensed.

"We'll do the best with what we got," Saban said of a defense that went through significant offseason changes. "We have to work to get a lot of guys better, and it's very challenging for us, and we're looking forward to the challenge."
