Can he take the defense with him?
While appearing on ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown” just before New England’s pummeling of the Jets, NFL Insider Adam Schefter mapped out why this could be the last season for Tom Brady, who is set to become a free agent after this season, with the Patriots.
“Let’s boil this down to the basic facts once again,” Schefter said. “Let’s look at some simple things: has he put his home for sale? Yes. Has his trainer put his home for sale? Yes. Has he set up his contract to void after this season to become a free agent? Yes. So if he’s selling his home and his trainer is selling his home and he’s voiding his contract? What does that tell you? He’s setting up to move on.”
Schefter didn’t outright predict or report this would be Brady’s final year in New England. The NFL insider later mentioned the veteran quarterback’s plans could just be leading to retirement or potentially re-signing from the Patriots.
With the 33-0 win over the Jets on Monday, the Pats improved to 7-0 for the third time in franchise history. Brady contributed a touchdown pass, but it was New England’s defense that dominated the Jets. Brady’s backup is rookie Jarrett Stidham, whom the organization drafted this year in the fourth round out of Auburn.
Brady is reportedly buying a house in Connecticut. The 42-year-old quarterback also said in a recent interview with ESPN that he still loves football but, “We’re close to the end.”
