  • LUCAS TORREIRA could have joined AC Milan this summer but Arsenal had “no intention” of letting him leave, according to the midfielder's agent.

Pablo Bentancur told TMW: “There was the possibility. (Marco) Giampaolo is in the heart of Lucas.

“But Arsenal said he had no intention of selling the boy. Lucas is fine, the club are happy with him. This will be the year of consecration. With the Arsenal shirt.

“Milan is Milan, it will always be an important team, even if today it has some economic problems.”

  • NEW Arsenal signing Nicolas Pepe has praised Unai Emery – and says he is ready to deliver Champions League football back to the Emirates.

The Gunners record signing told the club's website: “It's been really good because he speaks French and it has been much easier for us to communicate.

“I am new, the strategy and tactics are new and it really helps that I can get the coach's assistance. Now I need to learn English and this is something he is helping me with also.

“I chose to come here because it's a club with a lot of ambition. They have the dream of coming back to the Champions League and I am also an ambitious person, so the choice was very logical.

“I am attracted to the Premier League because it is an extremely intense championship and the best league in the world. The idea is to win the Europa League and that is a goal of ours. I believe we will.”

  • JAMIE CARRAGHER is worried that Liverpool's defence could get found out by the pace of Arsenal's attack when they face off on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams will come to Anfield with a perfect record of two wins from two so far in the Premier League this season but Carragher reckons the Reds have been far from immaculate.

The former Liverpool centre-back believes Jurgen Klopp's men are vulnerable to being sliced open by top-level attackers.

Carragher said on Monday Night Football: “With the quality Arsenal have, if Liverpool get themselves in those positions and don't run back, they're going to have major problems within that game.

“On the counter-attack as well, with Liverpool higher up the pitch, Arsenal could cause big problems, I have no doubt about that.

“The chances and the shots on goal that they are allowing at the moment, better quality teams and strikers will make Liverpool pay.”

  • HOW ARSENAL could line up after the January transfer window with Rugani, Zaha and Bellerin back in the XI.
