MAURIZIO SARRI is devastated over Chelsea’s transfer ban — because he claims they NEED players this summer.

The Blues have been clobbered with a two-window transfer suspension for breaking rules over the signing of young foreign players.

Fifa threw out their appeal — leaving them praying it is overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Boss Sarri faces the nightmare prospect of not being able to add to his squad this summer as he bids to close the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City.

Sarri admitted: “It’s very difficult to cover the gap at the moment. We need something from the transfer market.

“It’s not easy as the level of the top two is very, very high. And, as we can see in Europe, it’s not easy.

“In my opinion, we can reduce the gap. We have to buy only one or two players. Otherwise it’s very difficult to improve.”

CHELSEA'S upcoming transfer ban is “very, very bad news” for the club – with Eden Hazard on the brink of making a £100million move to Real Madrid.

The Blues' two-window embargo was upheld on Tuesday, with the club unable to bring in new talent until July 2020.

The West Londoners were slapped with the year-long ban after breaching rules relating to the signing of minors, including Bertrand Traore.

With Hazard all-but certain to join Los Blancos this summer, reports from AS in Spain have called the setback “very, very bad news”.

CHELSEA are battling to stop Roma nabbing Maurizio Sarri after doing a U-turn on the Italian manager.

The Standard say the Serie A club are willing to match the 60-year-old's £5million-a-year wages.

Sarri has admitted it will “not be easy” to challenge the Premier League top two, Liverpool and Manchester City, after Fifa upheld a ban on Chelsea signing players for the next two transfer windows.

And although he has publicly claimed he is happy to stay at Stamford Bridge, Roma are confident of luring him away.

REECE JAMES was snapped in training with Chelsea's first team today – just days after returning from his loan spell at Wigan.

The right-back, 19, headed back to Cobham this week following his stunning season with Paul Cook's side and will be looking to make an impression before the summer break.

Chelsea are preparing to take on Eintracht Frankfurt in their Europa League semi-final second leg at Stamford Bridge tomorrow – but James will not be involved.

James enjoyed a brilliant campaign at the DW Stadium, playing 44 times in the Championship.

He netted three goals – including a long-range worldie at Bristol City in April – and helped himself to three assists, finishing the season in midfield and with the captain's armband.

And his stellar campaign saw him win the Latics' Player of the Season award, with a stunning 96 PER CENT of the supporters' votes.

With Chelsea's transfer ban appeal rejected by Fifa, there is a strong chance James could be fast-tracked into the first team next season.
