  • TAMMY ABRAHAM is set to be handed his first competitive call-up for England tomorrow.

Gareth Southgate looks certain to pick the Chelsea striker, who has scored seven Premier League goals this season, for the forthcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers away to the Czech Republic and Bulgaria.

Abraham, who celebrates his 22nd birthday today, has already won two senior caps but they were in friendlies against Brazil and Germany in 2017.

But if he plays in either qualifier in Prague or Sofia – something which is likely to happen – this would end any chance of him starring for Nigeria, a country he also qualifies for.

England boss Southgate knows Abraham from his time with the England under-21s and feels he is ready to step up into the senior squad on a permanent basis.

  • CHELSEA skipper Cesar Azpilicueta was asked about Reece James' chances of nabbing his right-back spot this season.

He said: “I am here to support him the same way I support all the young lads.

“Hopefully he can be a very important player. We have great quality and Reece is one of them.

“I have known them for a long time so I know their quality, and I was very confident they had the level to perform.

“What they have been doing is very good for them and the club.”
