WEST HAM'S £45million deal to sign Maxi Gomez is off – after the striker decided he wanted to join Valencia instead.

The Hammers were prepared to meet the full buy-out clause for the Celta Viga striker as they looked to bring in a top class forward this summer.

That looked to have blown Valencia out of the running for the 22-year-old as they were only offering a player-plus-cash deal.

But a lack of willingness on West Ham's part to pay the whole release clause up front held up the move while attempted to persuade Celta Viga to accept instalments.

That allowed Valencia the opportunity to increase their bid, and the Uruguayan has decided he wants to remain in La Liga instead of moving to the London Stadium.

Valencia have thrown in former Celta forward Santi Mina into the deal as well as a loan for Jorge Saenz to help sweeten the deal.

NEAL MAUPAY is set to become Sheffield United's £15million record buy after Brentford slashed the asking price for their French striker.

The Bees originally wanted £22million for Maupay, but have now lowered their valuation because of the hit-man's attraction to the prospect of performing in the Premier League.

And the Blades can offer him the chance to compete at the highest level after winning promotion back to the top flight following 12 years in lower league exile.

Maupay, 22, notched 28 goals in 49 outings for Brentford last season, and is one of United boss Chris Wilder's top summer transfer targets.

Another was midfielder Luke Freeman, who became Bramall Lane's most expensive signing when he arrived from QPR in a £6million deal last week.

Aston Villa, managed by Maupay's former Griffin Park chief Dean Smith, are also tracking the former Nice and Saint-Etienne goal grabber.

DIVOCK ORIGI is reportedly set to sign a new long-term Liverpool contract.

ESPN claims the Belgian striker, who scored in the Champions League final win over Spurs, is ready to remain at Anfield after being guaranteed more minutes by Jurgen Klopp.

Origi was left out of the frame last season until he was summoned off the bench to net a dramatic winner in the Merseyside derby against Everton in December.

The versatile forward, 24, then became a key substitute for the Reds, and scored two goals in the comeback against Barcelona to secure Liverpool’s place in another European final.

Origi has just one year left on his current deal, prompting fears Liverpool would either be forced to sell him or allow him to leave on a free transfer next summer.

Spanish giants Real Betis have been linked with a tempting swoop.

BOURNEMOUTH are offering England striker Callum Wilson a new five-year deal to keep him away from the exit door.

Wilson is wanted by West Ham among others but the Cherries are putting off any sake by giving him a rise and an extended stay.

The new contract would see Wilson, 27, earn around £26million between now and 2024, tying him down for the peak seasons of his career.

It is a huge gesture and a repeat of the way Bournemouth headed off interest in Wilson a year ago when he committed to a long term deal.

Since then Wilson has had another impressive season and made the full England side, justifying Bournemouth handing him a new deal.

West Ham have been monitoring the Cherries star's situation and are ready to offer £35m for the striker.
