The Holy Bible is cherished worldwide for many different reasons: some see it as an important piece of literature, while others consider it a historical text. For most people, however, the Bible is a religious document that chronicles the world’s creation, the rise and fall of the Israelites and the life and death of the Christian Messiah, Jesus Christ. Young Earth Creationists believe the Bible’s numerous books and chapters are historical and chronological, meaning they trace mankind’s history to the very beginning of time.
The Bible’s first book, Genesis, famously begins with the words: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
Christians believe this moment marks the de facto start of the world as we know it and all events that followed happened within the space of about 5,871 years.
Young Earth Creationism flies in the face of widely accepted scientific theory the universe was born about 13.8 billion years ago and the Earth is about 4.5 billion-years-old.
In this timeline, the dinosaurs were wiped out by an asteroid impact about 66 million years ago and the first humans did not appear until about two million years ago.
Tom Meyer, a professor of Bible Studies at Shasta Bible College in California, US, has now challenged the scientific model.
The scripture expert believes there is ample historic and archaeological evidence to show humans and dinosaurs roamed the Earth together less than 6,000 years ago.
In particular, he cited Native American rock art which he claims depicts real-life dinosaurs.
Professor Meyer told Express.co.uk: “Conventional wisdom professes that dinosaurs became extinct 68 million years before man evolved on the Earth.
“However, Native American Indian rock art, the recent discovery of shocking dinosaur fossils, and Bible verses all point to a time when man lived alongside dinosaurs.
“Whether it is the depictions of a dinosaur created by North American Anasazi Indians at the National Bridges National Monument or a winged monster at the San Rafael Swell which is also in Utah, it is evident from these petroglyphs and pictographs that the Anasazi Indians were eyewitnesses to dinosaurs only a few thousand years ago (150 BC to 1200 AD).”
About 16 years ago, the scientific world was stunned by the discovery of a Tyrannosaurus Rex thigh bone in Montana, in the US.
What stood out about the bone was it appeared to contain remnant blood vessels and cells – the very first observation of its kind.
Ten years later, and researchers at Imperial College London made a similar breakthrough when they identified remnant red blood cells and connective tissue in a 75 million-year-old dino fossil.
As far as the researchers were concerned, this was an unprecedented glimpse into Earth’s prehistoric past.
Professor Meyer, however, believes these discoveries only serve to verify the biblical chronology of mankind’s time here on Earth.
He said: “Blood vessels, cells and protein fragments cannot last for 68 million years, but they can last, under the right conditions, for a few thousand years, as is demonstrated by Egyptian mummies.
“Besides testifying to man living alongside ‘dragons,’ the Bible’s oldest book, the book of Job, also testifies to man living alongside a massive beast named ‘behemoth,’ which creation scientists assert sounds very much like a brachiosaurus (Job 40:15-24).
“The description of Behemoth inspires a sense of awe. When it sways its tail, it is reminiscent of the tall and noble cedar tree of Lebanon swaying in the wind.
“The muscles in his thighs are woven tightly together like a rope.

“Its rib bones were as strong as brass and his backbone as strong as cast iron.”
The beast was described as the most powerful creature in all the lands.
According to Genesis, God created all animals – including the dinosaurs – on the sixth day of creation.
Professor Meyer said: “According to the Jewish calendar, this beginning for both dinosaurs and man was just 5,781 years ago.
“In sum, Native American petroglyphs, fossilized dinosaurs, and the biblical narrative all contest the conventional wisdom that dinosaurs became extinct 68 million years, well before man evolved from ooze to the zoo to you via a series of chance mutations over billions of years.
“The facts simply match the biblical account better than the wisdom of this world.”
Scientists would, of course, dispute these claims, as they have for decades.
David R. Montgomery, a Professor of Earth and Space Sciences at the University of Washington, said in 2015 there is a geological argument to be made against Young Earth Creationism.
He said: “Embracing Young Earth Creationism means you have to abandon faith in the story told by the rocks themselves.
“This, of course, is no surprise to geologists who have established that the world is billions of years old, far older than the thousands of years that creationists infer from adding up the generations enumerated in the Bible.”
