Walking humanoid delivery robot is next step for online shopping

Ford have announced the eerily humanoid machine this week with a video showing the robot, which is called Digit, avoiding obstacles as it waked from the curb to a front door to deliver a package.

The car giant has so far declined to say whether they will be operating the car-and-robot system as a standalone venture themselves or will be looking to partner with an existing courier company.

Either way it’s bad news for delivery drivers, who are likely to bear the brunt of any job cuts stemming from the widespread roller of Digit.

Ford themselves have announce that they will be laying of 10% of there star this week as a cost-cutting exercise.

“In the near future, robots will deliver groceries, help take care of us in our homes, and assist in disaster recovery”

Digit pricing will be announced later this year, with deliveries beginning in early 2020.

The two-part Ford-Digit system will begin wider tests early next year.
