TikTok’s viral Pink Sauce sparks frenzy as chef refuses to say what’s in it

Some outrageous things can go viral and become a trend in this social media age. But something as simple as a dipping sauce is currently taking over TikTok.

When we think of condiments to go with our chicken nuggets or fries, we think of mayonnaise or ketchup. But Pink Sauce, created by celebrity chef and Tiktok creator Chef Pii, has many people puzzled.

There are many questions about the mysterious pink-coloured substance, with some even wondering if it's actually edible.

Here are some answers including what's in the pink sauce, how it tastes and what people have been saying about the newest, brightest dipping sauce in town.

What is Pink Sauce?

Pink Sauce is a dipping sauce, which resembles Pepto-Bismol with its bright pink colour, created by Florida-based Chef Pii

The celebrity chef began posting about pink sauce on her TikTok back in early June, pouring the sticky pink substance over foods like chicken, gyros and tacos.

One of the first thing people wondered was why the sauce was pink, to which Chef Pii posted a video in reply.

She said she "wanted to come up with like this crazy innovative off the wall sauce", which is why she went for the unique colour.

  • raw honey
  • distilled vinegar
  • pitaya, or dragon fruit
  • garlic
  • pink Himalayan sea salt
  • less than 2% of dried spices, lemon juice, milk and citric acid

What does Pink Sauce taste like?

The colour of Pink Sauce might be different from what you're used to, but it tastes quite similar to condiments you've probably tried before.

Since going viral on TikTok, many have been buying Pink Sauce to try it out for themselves. Most have described the taste of Pink Sauce as "sweet, savoury and seasoned" all in one.

Some have found its taste to be similar to ranch dressing, except it's sweeter and, of course, pink.

What are people saying about Pink Sauce?

Though the sauce has gone viral, many netizens have raised questions and concerns over the condiment, particularly its ingredients, nutritional value and impact on health.

The sauce is thought to contain milk, which has critics concerned over its shelf life.

One Twitter user said: "If the pink sauce really has milk in it, then everyone ordering is eating spoiled milk."

Chef Pii's initial resistance to revealing the ingredients of the sauce also had many concerned about whether they should actually be eating it.

Later, the chef posted a video apologising for issues related to the launch of her product, including inconsistencies on the bottle's nutritional label.

In an interview with Washington Post, Chef Pii also reassured that pink sauce is legal and safe, adding: "I've been using it and serving it to my clients for a year – no one has ever gotten sick."
