Tesla's CYBERTRUCK could be the next addition to the Dubai police

Tesla’s CYBERTRUCK could be the next addition to the Dubai police force’s fleet of supercars – which already includes a Bugatti, an Aston Martin and a Bentley

  • The Dubai Police Twitter feed pinned a Photoshopped picture of a Cybertruck
  • The electric vehicle had been decked out with the force’s badge and livery
  • Advanced orders for Tesla’s latest offering have already reached 200,000
  • The Cybertruck range will start at $39,900 with production to begin next year

The Dubai police may have pre-ordered a Cybertruck — Tesla’s recently revealed futuristic-looking electric vehicle — after tweeting a mock-up of one in their livery.

The law-enforcement organisation is famous for its fleet of fancy cars — brands represented among which include Aston Martin, Bentley, Buggati and Porsche.

The futuristic-looking Cybertruck was unveiled by Tesla CEO Elon Musk last week in Hawthorne, California, with its stark design attracting varied reactions online.

The image of the Cybertruck decorated with the Dubai police force’s badge and colours was first shared to twitter by the government’s Dubai Future Foundation.

The police have since pinned the mock-up image to the top of their Twitter feed.

The Dubai police are famous for their fleet of high-end vehicles, which include a 253 mile-per-hour Bugatti Veyron, an Aston Martin One-77, a Bentley Continental GT, two BMW i8s and three hybrid Porsche Panameras.

According to Elon Musk’s posts on Twitter, orders for the starkly-designed electric truck are apparently pouring in —  having already reached over 200,000.

The single- and dual-motor version of the car are expected to enter production in 2021, with a triple-motor, all-wheel-drive version to launch in late 2022.

Prices for the Cybertruck range will start at $39,900 (around £31,000) with the most expensive model anticipated to retail at $69,900 (around £54,000).

Earlier this week, Elon Musk took to Twitter to explain why the windows of his Cybertruck broke during a failed strength test at its launch event last week.

Mr Musk explained in a tweet that the base of the glass window had already been weakened during a previous demo.

Designer Franz von Holzhausen had hit the car’s door with a sledgehammer to prove its toughness and, while it appeared to go unscathed, this ‘cracked the base of [the] glass’, according to Musk.

It is unclear, however, if this explanation accounts for the breaking of the rear passenger window, which was not similarly hammered.
