SpaceX will launch US Air Force’s first spy satellite today – how to watch

SpaceX will attempt to launch the United States Air Force’s first Global Positioning System III space vehicle (SV) today.

The launch will begin today at 09:34 EST (14:34 GMT), from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.

The vehicle will launch into space on board a Falcon 9 rocket, and will be deployed to medium Earth orbit approximately 1 hour and 56 minutes after liftoff.

While SpaceX usually re-lands its Falcon 9 rockets, it says that ‘due to mission requirements’, this won’t be attempted.

The United States’ Global Positioning System will join 31 other operational GPS satellites in the sky, and will be used to deliver positioning, navigation and timing information to the US Air Force.
