Somerset folk joke Kim Kardashian could be creepy ‘Gimp man’ stalking village

Avon and Somerset Police have been unable to locate the notorious “Gimp Man” that’s been terrorising the village of Claverham for the past few years – but locals have a new suspect after seeing Kim Kardashian’s eye-catching Met Gala outfit.

The former reality star, who is in the process of divorcing rapper Kanye West, rocked up at the $30,000-a-ticket celebrity bash wearing a bizarre Balenciaga outfit that covered her in black fabric from head to toe.

Kim’s outfit, which appears to have been influenced by the all-black ensemble Kanye has been wearing to promote his new album Donda, reminded Yatton and Claverham residents of the head-to-toe latex number worn by the Gimp Man, who has been menacing the Somerset villages since 2018.

One local broke the story on Twitter, writing: ''Can't believe it! Kim Kardashian is the Somerset Gimp? Wowzers. You just never know who is skulking around your neighbourhood.''

@JoeyMayall wrote: ''What are the chances that Kim Kardashian is the Somerset gimp that we’re hearing is making a comeback?''.

Another tweeted: ''Claverham gimp unmasked! It's Kim Kardashian!''

Police in the Somerset village are currently investigating a new sighting and said officers have not ruled out a connection to earlier sightings of the masked ''creep'' – known locally as Gimp Man.

Avon and Somerset police told the BBC patrols had been increased around Claverham since the creepy customer was spotted in the area on September 1.

Since November 2018, there have been at least 14 reports of a person dressed in a fetish-inspired costume approaching people in the village at night.

One local told the BBC: “I've got older children and even my kids are saying 'it's the gimp man again… they’re really freaked out by it.

“But it could be anyone and I want to come from a practical point of view and do something to help people feel safer.”

She added that people had reported “weird things happening” in the village recently.

“I'm not too bothered to walk around on my own but it freaks my children out and I want them to feel safer,” she said.

Following a major police search in 2019, two “gimp man” suspects were arrested but both were released without charge due to a lack of evidence.

Officers said they are keeping an open mind as to whether the same person is responsible for this most recent Gimp Man sighting and the earlier occurrences.

But now, at least, the coppers have one new suspect to eliminate from their enquiries.
