Samsung has unveiled its new Galaxy Note 9 handset as the technology giant looks to strengthen its position as the world’s largest smartphone maker.
The Seoul firm’s new device once again features the Note line’s signature S Pen stylus, this time in an upgraded form with integrated Bluetooth functionality.
It also comes equipped with the characteristic ‘phablet’ size screen, this time a whopping 6.4-inch Super AMOLED Infinity Display.
The firm claims this phone will ‘raise the bar for speed and power once again’ and is available in four colours: Midnight Black, Lavender Purple and Ocean Blue.
Samsung claimed the Note 9 was designed with gaming in mind, and announced that Fortnite will be available on the gadget, the first Android device to host the game.
The Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney also announced a special ‘Galaxy’ skin for Fortnite for the select group of players who access the game on the new device.
Samsung’s marquee product will be available starting from August 24 in the UK with prices earmarked at £899 ($999) for the 128GB variant and £1,099 ($1,249) for the 512GB variant.

Samsung launched the phone at its Samsung Unboxed event in New York today, which it live streamed to more than half a million people worldwide.
The most notable improvements to the Note 9 from its predecessor, the Note 8, lie in the S-pen, the processor and the battery life.
It is also fitted with a host of sensors and complex equipment, including an accelerometer, barometer, fingerprint sensor, geomagnetic sensor and a heart rate sensor.
‘The Note has always been our showcase for premium technology and industry-defining innovation, and Galaxy Note9 is no exception,’ DJ Koh, President and CEO of IT and Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics told an audience at the Samsung Unboxed event in New York.
‘It’s designed for a level of performance, power and intelligence that today’s power users want and need.
‘Note fans are Samsung’s most loyal; we know they want it all, to get the most out of work and play, and Galaxy Note9 is the only phone that can keep up with their busy lives.’

Better Battery
Samsung has dramatically increased the battery inside the Galaxy Note 9.
The next-generation handset now boasts a 4,000mAh battery cell, the largest ever shipped on a flagship Galaxy phone, which the company says will deliver day-long battery life.
By contrast, the Note 8 has a 3300 mAh cell.
Bigger Storage
Galaxy Note 9 is available with two internal storage options – 128GB or 512GB.
The basic version isapable os stoting up to 670 hours of films.
Like previous models, the handset supports expandable storage via microSD, allowing users to increase the amount of available storage up to 1TB of memory.
Samsung’s previous entry in the productivity-focused Note range included a maximum of 256GB of inbuilt storage.

Faster processor
Samsung claims its all-new Galaxy Note 9 is ‘super powerful’.
The next-generation handset is powered by a flagship Qualcomm SnapDragon 845 processor, coupled with 8GB of RAM.
It also ships with support for the fastest mobile network speeds currently available, which will allow Galaxy Note 9 owners to download content up to 1.2 gigabits per second.
To ensure the phablet doesn’t suffer from the same overheating issues that plagued the Note 7, Samsung has fitted its latest handset with a ‘industry-leading’ custom Water Carbon Cooling system.
The Galaxy Note 9 also uses AI on the smartphone to tweak the power out of the smartphone to ensure it delivers a stable performance.

Improved S Pen
Samsung has updated the S Pen stylus — one of the signature features of the Note range.
Like previous models, the S Pen can be used to navigate around the touchscreen, annotate images and screenshots, and create animated GIFs from videos.
The next-generation stylus now uses Bluetooth Low-Energy (BLE), which is much more energy-efficient and should reduce the impact of the wireless stylus on the smartphone’s battery.
The Galaxy Note 9’s dual rear and single front cameras have also been upgraded, for clearer photography and selfies. It ships with a dual-camera system comprised of a Dual Pixel 12MP wide-angle lens, and a 12MP telephoto lens
Coupled with the larger battery cell inside the Note 9, battery life should be improved across the board with the new handset.
Samsung has added a swathe of functionality to the button on the S Pen.
Clicking this button can now be used to trigger a remote shutter function, taking a selfie or a group image from a distance.
It can also be used to cycle through slides in a keynote presentation, or control video playback.
Improved cameras
The Galaxy Note 9’s dual rear and single front cameras have also been upgraded, for clearer photography and selfies.
It ships with a dual-camera system comprised of a Dual Pixel 12MP wide-angle lens, and a 12MP telephoto lens. Both have Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) technology.
The dual-lens system enables a 2x optical zoom in, and also enables the smartphone to take portrait mode-style images with a bokeh-style blur to the background
It uses artificial intelligence to identify elements of a photo, such as scene and subject, to automatically classify it into one of 20 categories and instantly optimise it based on the category.
If the first shot doesn’t come out right, the Galaxy Note9 lets users know there’s something wrong, so they can take another picture without losing the moment.
An immediate notification will appear if the image is blurry, the subject blinked, there is a smudge on the lens, or there’s backlight impacting the quality of the image.
It also comes with advanced noise reduction technology, and a Dual Aperture lens, which adjusts to light just like the human eye.
That mans that, no matter the lighting conditions, the camera should deliver a crystal-clear shot.
