Nostradamus predicted King Charles III will be forced to abdicate and Prince Harry will ascend the throne, according to an author. The bizarre claims come from an interpretation of the French astrologer’s book Les Prophéties.

In the collection of 942 poems published in 1555, Michel de Nostradamus claims to predict future events.

Mario Reading, an author who wrote a book about Nostradamus in 2005, claimed in his work to have interpreted one of the poems to mean King Charles III will abdicate and the throne would pass to the Duke of Sussex and not the first in line, Prince William.

Mr Reading also claims Nostradamus pointed to the death of Queen Elizabeth II in another of his poems.

He writes in Nostradamus: Complete Prophecies for the Future: “The preamble is that Queen Elizabeth II will die, circa 2022, at the age of around 96, five years short of her mother’s term of life.

“Prince Charles will be 74 years old in 2022, when he takes over the throne.

“But the resentments held against him by a certain proportion of the British population, following his divorce from Diana, Princess of Wales, still persist.”

Mr Reading’s claim about Harry ascending the throne is based on his interpretation of a line which reads: “[A] man will replace him who never expected to be King”.

The author asks: “Does that mean Prince William, who would have expected to succeed his father, is no longer in the picture?”

“Prince Harry, by process of default, becomes King in his stead? That would make him King Henry IX, aged just 38.”

The late author also claims in his book that Nostradamus predicted many Commonwealth countries would break away during King Charles III’s reign.

This claim is based on a line from Nostradamus which mentions a “King of the Islands”.

Mr Reading’s book shot up to the top of the Sunday Times general paperbacks chart after the death of the Queen on September 8.

It sold almost 8,000 copies in the week ending September 17, according to the same publication, having sold just five copies before the Queen’s death.

The Sunday Times said the book’s recent success was likely to have been driven by extracts going viral on social media.

Nostradamus, who was born in Provence in 1503, is believed by supporters to have predicted the Great Fire of London, the rise of Napoleon, the Apollo moon landings and the 9/11 terror attacks.

A medieval French scholar, Mr Reading died aged 63 in 2017.

Since the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the Duke and Duchess of Sussexes’s titles have not changed.

Despite the Duke having moved up from sixth to fifth in line to the throne, he is still too far down the line of succession to ever be expected to be king.

Harry and Meghan’s children, Archie and Lili, as grandchildren of a monarch, are now a prince and a princess.

It is not known whether they will use the titles, which they were not entitled to when they were born.

According to rules set out by King George V in 1917, Archie and Lilibet – as the children of a son of a sovereign – are also entitled to use HRH if they choose.
