‘Nightmare neighbours keep kids up with bedroom antics – but somehow I’m wrong’

A dad of six children has aired his frustrations on the platform Reddit, to complain about his “noisy” neighbours.

The man, aged 46, has four daughters and two sons, ranging from ages two to 16. Writing on the social media site, the dad explained his living arrangements, admitting he “shares custody” of his children and has them on Tuesdays and Thursdays, every week.

All of his daughters share a room, as do his sons, however, none of the children can sleep because of the late-night bedroom antics performed by his neighbours, which cause the couple to “scream”.

The man admitted: “A few days ago my daughter came into my room at 2am crying, saying she thinks the neighbours are fighting each other and that they were screaming. Of course, l was concerned and told my daughter to stay in my room, I went into hers and low and behold they were screaming. But not from fighting…”

The man has become “irritated” by the noises, as he claims the couple next door is waking up his children during the early hours of the night.

After confronting his next-door neighbours about the loud noise and thin walls, the dad explains the husband “got mad and embarrassed”.

Despite making suggestions such as “putting on a TV show in the background” to help drown out the noise, or having peace and quiet on just the days his children are over, he claims he is not being “respected”.  He even suggested they should visit a motel.

He said: “He [neighbour] told me it was none of my business what they did in bed and then slammed the door in my face.”

One Reddit platform user, Snackgirl_Currywurst said: “Being noisy at 2am, waking up your neighbours is not ok at all. No matter if it’s for s** or other reasons which can be avoided or toned down.”

Another added the neighbours had a right in how they conducted themselves at home: “I get it’s annoying but you don’t get to dictate what consenting adults do in their own home and you definitely don’t tell them to go spend money on a motel/hotel/Holiday Inn instead of enjoying their own home.”

User, bcelos, also shared his perspective: “This is just one of the problems living in close proximately to other people, and unless you are willing to move to a more secluded area, is something you will just have to deal with.”

Another tried to balance the argument by questioning whether six children in a household would also create a lot of noise at times.
