NASA live stream: Watch Space Station astronauts leave ISS this weekend – Spacewalk LIVE

NASA will broadcast the first of 10 planned spacewalks over the weekend, starting Sunday, October 6. On Sunday, two NASA astronauts will don their spacesuits to install new batteries on the International Space Station’s (ISS’) exterior. NASA said the “record” 10 spacewalks will unfold over the next three months.

The first five spacewalks will kick off on Sunday, October 6, around 12.50pm BST (7.50am EDT).

NASA’s astronauts will venture to the far end of the space station’s port truss.

Mrs Koch and Mr Morgan will upgrade the station’s nickel-hydrogen batteries with more powerful lithium-ion models

The new ISS batteries arrived on the orbital laboratory last month on September 28.

The batteries were delivered to the space station by a Japanese H-II Transfer Vehicle.

How to watch the NASA spacewalk live stream this weekend?

All of NASA’s spacewalks are broadcast live over the internet and terrestrial television, putting you right in the middle of the action.

On Sunday, you can tune-in to NASA via the space agency’s website and official YouTube channel.

You can also watch the stream below in the embedded NASA TV video player.

The NASA live stream will kick off around 11.30am BST (6.30am EDT) on Sunday morning – an hour before the spacewalk itself.

NASA said: “Astronauts aboard the International Space Station plan to conduct what may become a record pace of 10 complex spacewalks during the next three months, a cadence that has not been experienced since assembly of the space station was completed in 2011.

All spacewalks will air on NASA Television and the agency’s website

“Experts will discuss those plans in a briefing at 2pm EDT Tuesday, October 1, at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston.

“Live coverage of the briefing and all spacewalks will air on NASA Television and the agency’s website.”

You can also watch a spacewalk press briefing in the embedded video player from 7pm BST tonight (October 4).

NASA fans and members of the public were invited to participate in the live stream by asking any burning questions they have.

You can submit your questions through Twitter by tweeting with the hashtag #AskNASA.

NASA will collect the best questions and answer them live online.

Once the space station’s power systems are upgraded, the second phase of spacewalks will focus on repairing the ISS’ Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer.

The instrument studies cosmic rays and particles washing over the space station to better understand what the universe is made of.

One of the key goals of the mission is to try and unravel the mystery of dark matter.

NASA said: “Dates for those spacewalks still are being discussed, but they are expected to begin in November.”

You can watch those spacewalks via the embedded live stream above next month.
