A leaked video appears to show Samsung’s futuristic Galaxy Fold smartphone out in the wild.
The $1,980 folding phone isn’t slated to hit the shelves until late April, but YouTube user phoneoftime claims to have gotten their hands on the device.
In the clip, the user shows off the phone folded and unfolded, but what stands out the most is a glaringly obvious crease down the middle of the extra large screen.

It’s not clear how user phoneoftime got ahold of the Fold shown in the video, or whether it’s a prototype version or the same version that will be available for consumers next month.
What’s also unclear is how much use the device shown in the video has undergone.
Prior to the Fold’s release, Samsung reportedly tested the phone’s folding mechanism more than 200,000 times, meaning it passed the threshold for durability.
However, the firm is said to have faced some hurdles in making its folding screens durable.

Bloomberg reported that the Fold develops a crease on the main screen after it’s folded about 10,000 times, causing the tech giant to consider offering free screen replacements once it goes on sale.
Without knowing more details about the device shown in phoneoftime’s video, it’s hard to say if the Fold has issues with wear and tear.

Samsung’s folding phone is no longer a thing of the future. At the tech firm’s Unpacked event, it officially debuted the Galaxy Fold, a unique device that’s part smartphone, part tablet
At the very least, the demonstration shows that the Fold has a pretty seamless user interface.
The Galaxy Fold runs on Samsung’s One UI, a redesigned operating system that runs on top of Android 9 Pie.
Icons and other design elements appear more simplified in the new One UI.
Additionally, in the clip, the user can be seen unlocking the device, swiping through apps and then flipping the screen closed.
From there, the UI continues to run smoothly.
The demonstration also gives a close-up look at a notch-like cutout in the upper right corner of the 7.3-inch internal display, where three cameras and other sensors are housed.
When folded closed, the display turns into 4.6-inches. Altogether, the Fold packs six cameras, two batteries and ‘App continuity’ technology to run three apps at once.
Samsung began accepting pre-orders for the device last month, and it will hit the shelves on April 26th.
HOW DOES SAMSUNG’S FOLDING PHONE WORK?
At the Korean tech giant’s Unpacked event in San Francisco, it officially debuted the Galaxy Fold, a unique device that’s part smartphone, part tablet.
The Galaxy Fold, which features an unprecedented six cameras and two batteries, starts at a whopping $1,980.
In a mesmerizing demonstration, Samsung showed how the Galaxy Fold transforms from a compact smartphone that ‘fits in the palm of your hand’ into a full-sized tablet with an uninterrupted screen, thanks to a hinge that’s ‘hidden’ in the device.

When folded open, the device features a 7.3-inch AMOLED Infinity Flex Display with QXGA+ resolution.
It then folds closed to become a single, smaller 4.6-inch AMOLED display.
Amazingly, the full screen is almost entirely edge-to-edge and features no disruptive hinge down the middle, allowing it to ‘open naturally’ and giving it a ‘seamless, elegant look.’
Samsung said it worked with Google to help Android app developers optimize their apps for the revolutionary folding display design.
The interior screen is big enough that users can run three apps at one time.
