Hundreds of crabs invade Florida street in nightmare clip

Abriel Arnel captured the frightening encounter as she walked back to her home in the town of Stuart.

In the clip, hundreds of blue land crabs are seen walking across the road and pavements.

A passing car slows down in what appeared to be a bid to not frighten the shelled creatures but results in them scattering into the bushes.

Some are crushed under the vehicle’s tyres.

As Abriel walks around the street, the remaining crabs scatter and take cover in the bushes that line the path.

She’s heard wincing as she avoids going near them.

The woman said she’s even greeted at her front door by the pesky creatures.

“I was told they are blue land crabs,” she said.

“Apparently they burrow throughout the year, but it’s during this season (and their spawning season) when the heavy rain forces them out.”

Abriel told Fox 35: “We’ve lived here for a few years and this is the worst we’ve seen them.”

According to researchers at the University of Florida, blue land crab mating and the female migrating season run until December but its peak is in October and November.

It comes after a giant crab came face-to-face with a child.
