Huge eel-like creature filmed near Loch Ness after experts announce ‘truth’

A large creature was filmed swimming in the River Ness just days before experts revealed the Loch Ness monster could actually be a "massive eel".

Sightings of the mythical dinosaur-like creature have baffled people for hundreds of years.

Researchers from New Zealand's University of Otago decided to try and get to the bottom of the sightings and collected 250 water samples from the depths of the 227m for analysis.

The researches have since ruled out that Nessie could be a dinosaur but instead claim it's more likely to be a "massive eel".

And a new clip, filmed by the Ness District Salmon Fishery Board, appears to have proven that theory.

A fish can be seen swimming in the murky green and orange water in front of the camera.

In the background, the eerie creature swims past the camera.

At one point its long body fills the entire width of the screen.

The fishery board uploaded the clip to Facebook on Sunday.

They captioned it: "Let's be honest – when you see a large, eel-shaped object passing your camera in the River Ness, the first thing you think of is loch ness monster."

Some 11,000 people have since commented on the clip, with one person saying: "What the hell."

A second asked what the animal's size and scale was.

While a third thought it was simply a "mature migrating eel".

It comes as thousands of monster hunters plan to search the Loch Ness to find Nessie.
