Horrified Aldi customer discovers ‘stowaway’ insect inside supermarket salad bag

A woman has been left astonished by the discovery of an enormous stowaway inside her bag of salad.

Taking to Twitter @Chakra_Khan posted a video of her bag of ready-to-eat Watercress, Spinach and Rocket Salad from Aldi, but inside was more than just leaves.

What appears to be a huge moth could be seen in the video crawling around inside the plastic, seemingly alive and well.

“Unreal. I just opened a bag of salad… and this bug is still alive in it,” she can be heard saying at one point during the video.”

In the post, and with her sense of humour still intact, she wrote: “Hiya @AldiUK there’s a stowaway in my salad.

“I mean, I am happy it’s fresh enough for the intruder to still be alive, and best believe I have set him free.

“But what if he doesn’t like it here and seeks retribution? I am scared and also hungry, that was my lunch.”

Aldi was quick to comment on the Twitter post, with a representative called Ahsley writing back saying: “Oh no, we are sorry. On your next visit please take your receipt and packaging for a refund or replacement.”

“You don’t get given a receipt anymore in my local store even if I wanted to do such a thing. Thanks anyway,” @Chakra_Khan responded, signing off with an insect emoji.

Although the beastie inside the bag looks like a moth, she wasn’t sure.

Responding to a question about the identity of the fauna, the original posted commented: “I honestly don’t know. I thought moth but its body isn’t mothy. It’s got a wingspan of an a380 I know that much.”

People were quick to comment on the post, with many pointing out the insect was a free source of “protein,” while others shared their own animal food finds or voiced their disgust and trauma from Chakra’s experience.

The Daily Star has contacted Aldi for comment.
