Eric Cantona says he’s going to outer space to advertise his favourite beer

The former United striker who has been described as one of the Premier League’s most controversial players ever says he’s going into space in order to advertise Kronenbourg lager.

Eric said: “It is a well-known fact in Alsace that Kronenbourg is le taste supreme in the world, but we want to prove that it is le taste supreme in the entire universe! So where will I be going to prove that Kronenbourg is le taste supreme in the universe? Space, of course.”

He claims to be lifting off on his journey to the stars next month, and he made his announcement dressed in a full spacesuit in front of a mock-NASA banner to make sure we took him seriously.

The improbable mission is being trailed with a series of videos and a magnetic sculpture that suspends life-sized effigy of the French sporting superstar above a miniature Earth.

“We want to honour Eric’s mission, one that he’s undertaking entirely in the name of Kronenbourg, in a suitably space-age and epic way – and a monument of the man, dressed in a spacesuit, and floating like a weightless astronaut certainly fits the bill.”

Behind the scenes training videos of Eric’s arduous journey preparing him for his trip to space will be chronicled on Kronenbourg’s website.
