When is the Draconid Meteor Shower?
The Draconid Meteor Shower is active between October 6 and 11.
However, this year’s event will peak tonight, so make sure you keep an eye out on the night sky this evening.
What time will the meteors be visible?
While many meteor showers are most visible in the early hours of the morning, thankfully there’s no need for an early start if you want to get involved.
The Draconids are most visible just after nightfall, so in the UK, look to the skies from around 18:00 BST tonight.
What are the Draconids?
The Draconid Meteor Shower happens when Earth crosses the orbital path of Comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner.
Debris from the comet collides with the Earth’s upper atmosphere, where it burns up, producing meteors in the night sky.
How many meteors can we expect?
Unfortunately, the Draconid Meteor Shower isn’t the most active shower, so you’ll need to have a sharp eye to spot a shooting star.
Experts predict that the shower will only produce around five meteors per hour.
