Donald Trump has started selling plastic straws, in a ridiculous bid to show that ‘Liberal paper straws don’t work.’
Trump’s straws are bright red and emblazoned with his name, and cost $15 (£12) for a pack of 10.
A description on his website explains: “Liberal paper straws don’t work. STAND WITH PRESIDENT TRUMP and buy your pack of recyclable straws today.”
While the description claims that the straws are ‘reusable and recyclable ’, worryingly the vast majority of straws of this type still end up in the ocean, and never even reach the recycling plant.
A blog by Get Green Now explained: “Plastic straws can technically be recycled.
“The problem is that plastic straws are small, thin, and bend easily. This is a problem because they easily fall into the cracks and crevices of recycling machinery.
“Therefore, most recyclers do not accept plastic straws, and most straws that do make it to a recycling facility do not become recycled.”
