Coronavirus cure: People are begging Elon Musk to eradicate COVID-19 – ‘Working on cure?’

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has infected more than 205,000 people at the time of writing and shows no signs of stopping. With no known cure in sight, people are looking to tech mogul Elon Musk to solve the crisis.

Mr Musk, 48, has previously told his more than 32 million followers the “coronavirus panic is dumb”.

But many believe the South African billionaire who wants to put humans on Mars has the resources and knowhow to fight the coronavirus.

One Twitter user said: “Hey @elonmusk, I figure you are pretty smart dude and maybe we should be looking at you for the answer at how to cure #COVID19 #coronavirus

“Sony help you could you could offer would probably be really appreciated by the people all over the globe.”

Another person said: “Theory: @elonmusk is going to come up with a #coronavirus cure.”

One person has also suggested the Rocket builder teams up with billionaires Bill Gates of Microsoft, Mike Bloomberg and the US President Donald Trump to fight the pandemic.

They tweeted: “@realDonaldTrump please sir, work with @MikeBloomberg and @BillGates and @elonmusk on a cure to the coronavirus (antidote and vaccine).

“There is an easy solution they are or may be conjecturing up. Talk to them.

“Good luck and may the world make a full recovery in Godpseed. Amen.”

Another Elon Musk fan said: “Hey Elon, are you working on a cure for this Coronavirus? Since you always be inventing something.”

The coronavirus panic is dumb

The coronavirus disease is triggered by a previously unknown strain of virus from the coronavirus family.

Officially known as SARS-CoV-2, the pathogen infects the respiratory system with flu-like symptoms and pneumonia.

Because the virus has never been seen in humans until last December, there is no cure that can fight it.

Instead, the World Health Organization (WHO) said hospitals can treat the symptoms of COVID-19 until they pass.

In most cases, people are only affected by mild symptoms such as sustained dry cough, fatigue and shortness of breath.

But COVID-19 has proven lethal among elderly age groups and people with underlying health conditions.

As of 3.25pm GMT on March 18, the virus has killed more than 8,000 people globally.

The WHO said: “To date, there is no vaccine and no specific antiviral medicine to prevent or treat COVID-2019.

“However, those affected should receive care to relieve symptoms.

“People with serious illness should be hospitalized. Most patients recover thanks to supportive care.

“Possible vaccines and some specific drug treatments are under investigation.

“They are being tested through clinical trials.”
