Chinese kissing device with ‘silicone lips’ lets users kiss through the internet

The internet has made it easier than ever to maintain a long-distance relationship. But sometimes only old-fashioned intimacy will do.

A new invention from China helps fix that problem by allowing users to send a “kiss” across the world electronically.

The Remote Kiss is a pair of silicone lips that contains pressure sensors and tiny motors promises to recreate the pressure, movement and even temperature of a lover’s kiss.

According to Chinese state newspaper Global Times, the invention has been patented by the Changzhou Vocational Institute of Mechatronic Technology.

Jiang Zhongli, leader of the Remote Kiss design team, explained: "In my university, I was in a long distance relationship with my girlfriend so we only contact with each other through phone. That's where the inspiration of this device originated”.

The bizarre contraption links to the user’s phone through a Bluetooth-enabled app.

Once connected, it’s simply a matter of making a call through the app to start smooching someone on the other side of the world.

The inventors point out that their device would also allow people suffering from contagious diseases to enjoy the healing intimacy of a kiss.

The Remote Kiss is now on sale in China, through shopping site Taobao, priced at 288 Yuan (about £35).

“My partner didn’t believe that kissing could be achieved at first,” said one delighted customer, “so her jaw dropped when she used it … This is the best surprise I have given her during our long-distance relationship. Thank you technology!”

The Remote Kiss also features a “kissing square” – a kind of Tinder-like section of the app that enables users to randomly select a stranger to kiss.

It’s the latest in a long line of devices designed to transmit physical intimacy through the digital realm.

For example, adult webcam platform CamSoda has launched the 'first ever' wearable teledildonic sex toy for men – Diamo.

Men will be able to sync Diamo to their favourite cam girls’ compatible teledildonic vibrator, so vibrations are felt by both simultaneously, in real-time.

The Covid-19 pandemic led to a sizeable sales boost for sex toys that connect lovers in different locations.

Ashton Egner, communications manager for sex tech pioneers Kiiroo, told Daily Star Online that more people had been searching for teledildonics technology since the pandemic.

He said: “There has been an uptick in chatter on social networks with couples …and singles… searching for new ways to connect with one another”.

The comparatively wholesome Remote Kiss might just be the first device of its kind to break through to the mainstream.
