Apple may be working on ‘Pro Mode’ for Macbooks that supercharges speed at the expense of battery life

Apple may offer users of its newest Macbook an ultra-fast ‘pro mode’ for when they need faster performance.
According to a report from 9to5Mac, strings of code have been discovered in the newest MacOS beta for Catalina 10.15.3 which suggest a high-performance mode that can be toggled on and off at will.
In a string of text hidden inside Catalina, Apple writes, ‘Apps may run faster, but battery life may decrease and fan noise may increase,’ according to 9to5Mac.
By turning the mysterious feature on, Apple also notes that it will override fan speed limits – presumably to deal with an influx of heat – and will automatically revert to a normal mode the next day.

While it hasn’t been confirmed by Apple, a high-performance feature could help to deal with RAM intensive tasks like playing games or using other demanding software.
Upon the machine’s release, Apple says it overhauled the MacBook specifically for ‘developers, photographers, filmmakers, scientists, music producers and anyone who relies on a Mac to create their life’s best work’.
It’s unclear if and when the feature might actually be activated, but 9to5Mac reports that it’s currently only been observed in the company’s newest Macbooks.

Older models may not be able to utilize a high-performance mode due to restrictions in fan speed or design.
Apple’s new Macbook, which went on sale in November, has a 16-inch Retina Display, 8-core processors,and 64GB of memory.
The new laptop has a similar price tag to its predecessor – which was released in 2016 – but has an overhauled design that features a brand-new keyboard, a higher resolution display and a separate Touch ID button for biometric security.
Separately, Apple also announced a new desktop, the Mac Pro ‘most powerful which went on sale in December with a starting price of $5,999.
