Video: Janet Jackson’s Essence Festival Set Marred by Technical Issues

The ‘That’s the Way Love Goes’ songstress briefly loses audio during her performance at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, but she’s able to continue with her hourlong-plus set.

AceShowbiz -Audio issues are very common during live shows and Janet Jackson isn’t spared from one. The five-time Grammy Award winner experienced technical issues during her performance at Essence Festival over the weekend.

The R&B artist was one of the big headliners at the NOLA concert series on Saturday, July 2 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. The sister of the late Michael Jackson nearly sold out the venue, which had 48,500 available tickets, but she briefly lost her audio during her set.

In a video obtained by TMZ, the “All for You” hitmaker’s mic seemed to be cut out while she was in the middle of either talking or singing. However, being a pro, she was able to power through and continue with her hourlong-plus set.

During her performance, Janet was flanked by four male dancers on stage. He opened up her set with the song “Feedback” and followed it up with classics including “What Have You Done for Me Lately”, “Control”, “Nasty” and “That’s the Way Love Goes”.

She also performed the tracks “Funny How Time Flies (When You’re Having Fun)”, “I Get Lonely” and “Together Again”. She then wrapped up her set with “Escapade” and “Black Cat”, before returning for an encore of her hit “Rhythm Nation”.

Janet’s set wasn’t the only one marred by technical issues. The site notes there were some complaints about the audio levels set for Chloe x Halle‘s set, with concertgoers saying their levels were off and that they sounded funky to the live audience.

The Essence Festival was also at the center of controversy as some Hulu subscribers were pissed that all of the songs weren’t live-streamed on the streaming service’s broadcast from the event. The streamer only live-streamed their very last song, a recurring theme for the festival.

This was notable when Nicki Minaj, who was the headliner on Friday night, didn’t end up making it on the Hulu broadcast. Angela Yee, who served as the host that night, noted they weren’t going to be able to show the “Anaconda” raptress’ set for viewers at home due to “circumstances beyond our control.”
