The Voice UK star Tom Jones, 82, has opened up about how he lost two stones after realising he "put on too much weight."

The It's Not Unusual singer revealed how he felt the extra pounds after he noticed that fitting into his suits wasn't as easy as it used to be.

It's been reported that the Welsh heartthrob now follows a strict diet, the paleo – or caveman- diet, that has helped him maintain looking trim, reports The Express.

This diet sees people eat exclusively eat lean meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds.

The Paleo diet is rich in vegetables, fruits and nuts, and the main difference between this diet and other healthy diets is the absence of whole grains, legumes and dairy products.

Tom told a radio show that the diet focused on "natural" foods, saying that he would eat foods that "get back to what we used to eat when we were hunters and gatherers. Eat anything that's natural – meat, fish, veg".

He also cut down his alcohol intake, with Wales Online reporting that Tom previously confessed that he had been drinking a bottle of wine with dinner at one stage.

As well as switching up his diet and monitoring his alcohol intake, Sir Tom also revealed how he got the aid of a personal trainer to help him get back into shape.

Speaking on a Radio 2 show, the singer said of his weight loss: "I was putting too much weight on. I didn't think I was going to and I left the working out for a bit. I thought I'd keep a check on it.

"But with the Christmas puddings and cakes, before I knew it, I was 230lb (16.4 stone) which was 30lb more than I should be. I couldn't get into my suits. That's when I thought: 'This has got to stop'."

With the help of a dietician, Sir Tom repaired his lifestyle. He said: "Health is very important, you've got to take care of yourself."

It comes after Tom is said to be in hot water with The Voice bosses because he can't stop swearing

Tom said: “I do it the most. They tell us to be careful, but you forget you are miked up. That’s my problem. I forget I’ve got a bloody microphone on."
