The 8 Albums We’re Most Excited for in 2019

Let’s face it: we were spoiled in 2018…when it comes to music, at least. From Cardi B’s “Invasion of Privacy” to Kacey Musgraves’s “Golden Hour” to Ariana Grande’s “Sweetener,” the bar kept being raised higher and higher. Lucky for us, 2019 looks equally as promising.

A few of our childhood favs (hint: sk8r boi) are returning, while some familiar faces (when does Ari even sleep?) are blessing us with even more bangers. Here arethe top eight albums we’re [im]patiently waiting to be released in 2019:

1. Avril Lavigne, Head Above Water

After releasing a truly sensational Christian-rock bop, our girl Avril is set to release her sixth album this coming year. It’s been a long time since her Sk8r Boi days, and the pop star is said to be opening up about her battle with Lyme disease on this new album. Cue all the tears.

2. Lana Del Rey, Norman Fucking Rockwell

Ms. Del Rey is back—thank god—withNorman Fucking Rockwell, dropping this March. The album is being produced by Jack Antonoff, who has worked with T-Swift and Lorde, so we know it’s gonna be good.

Heads up: Del Rey told Beats 1 host Zane Lowe that she hopes release a book of poetry prior to her album, so that’s two things we have to look forward to.

3. Carly Rae Jepsen, TBD

The angel who brought us the everlasting “Call Me Maybe” is rumored to be releasing an album sometime in 2019. We can probably assume more jams like her most recent hit, “Party for One,” will be on it. We stan.

4. The Weeknd, Chapter 6

In 2017, the singer dropped a six-song extended play titled My Dear Melancholy that delved deep into his relationship with Selena Gomez (still upset over this, TBH.) Hopefully Chapter 6 will give us deets into his and Bella’s love life. #Swoon.

5. Rihanna, TBD

Your girl is busy. RiRi has spent the past year expanding her empire with Fenty Beauty and her inclusive lingerie line, Savage X Fenty. Thankfully, the Queen has also been hard at work on her latest album since 2016’s “Anti.”

There are rumors that Rihanna may actually be releasing two albums (*fingers crossed*), but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

6. Backstreet Boys, DNA

Nick Carter + gang are back to make all of our childhood dreams come true. Their album drops January 25, and they’re world tour kicks off in May. We’ve never been more prepared for anything in our entire lives.

7. Dua Lipa, TBD

The pop star will be releasing her second album sometime in 2019, hopefully bringing us more ‘New Rules’ because, honestly, there’s no one we trust for relationship advice more than this woman. Lipa says she’s been listening to Prince and Outkast to get inspiration for her new album, so we can def expect some throwback vibes. (Here for it.)

8. Ariana Grande, thank u, next

You knew this was coming. Ari has had *QUITE* the year. From the release of Sweetener to her impressive bounce-back from all that Pete Davidson drama with the highly anticipated, star-studded ‘thank u, next’ music video, the girl is killin’ it. Ari initially told fans that her new album would be released before the end of 2018, but it seems that the insane hype over the title track has pushed back the release date. I guess good things come to those who wait (sigh.)
