Yet Beyonce fans were left with a sour taste, believing that Taylor had well and truly ripped off their Queen Bey.
There was a collective ‘shaking my head’ from the Beyhive, who said they were disappointed by Taylor’s lack of originality, especially since the performance as just been aired all over Netflix in the hugely-popular Homecoming documentary.
It wasn’t the first time a marching band appeared in a Beyonce appearance because Destiny’s Child marched onto the playing field in the Bugaboo video way back in 1999, when Tay would have been just nine.
Others suggested it harked back to the time Kanye West interrupted Taylor’s 2009 MTV Video Music Awards acceptance speech to say that Beyonce deserved the award for Best Female Video.
Fortunately, the Swifties had Taylor’s back and reminded the Beyhive that Taylor was doing the whole marching band thing back in 2009 when she took the Fearless tour to New York’s Madison Square Garden.
Lest we forget, the blue marching band skit in her world-famous You Belong With Me music video.
With the backlash aside, Taylor seemed to be well and truly back when she touched down at the BBMAs.
She looked like a pastel dream when she arrived in a little lilac dress, ready to open the show before performances by Madonna, Mariah Carey and Ariana Grande.
Tay-Tay is nominated for Top Female Artist and, awkwardly, up against Beyonce and her husband Jay-Z for Top Touring Artist.
So we’ll let the public decide who really did it better, later tonight.
