Congratulations to all the nominees announced in this week's 2019 APRA (Australasian Performing Right Association) Music Awards with an extra big shout out to first time Song of the Year nominees Mojo Juju and songwriting partner Rita Seumanutafa for Native Tongue, and also to Angie McMahon, nominated for the first time this year for Slow Mover. Also nominated in Song of the Year is Amy Shark for I Said Hi, Ainslie Wills for Society and Paul Kelly for With the One I Love. The winner will be announced on April 30 when other nominees, including Tash Sultana, Baker Boy, G-Flip, Jack River and Dean Lewis (Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year) and all other category winners are revealed.

This weekend we say adios to Melbourne landmark Cherry Bar in AC/DC Lane, the venue that Noel Gallagher from Oasis once offered to buy because he liked the joint so much. Axl Rose, Lady Gaga, Ian Astbury, Tom Morello and countless other musicians have drank, danced and rubbed shoulders with music lovers at Cherry Bar for two decades but it's shutting its doors after this weekend's final fling. Owner James Young says Cherry Bar will relocate and until then, he's encouraged folks to get among the very last Cherry Bar bash in AC/DC Lane. Tickets are just $25 from cherrybar.com.au

★★★
After starting out busking close to three decades ago, the Genes are still never happier than when they've packed a bunch of instruments into the van and hit the road to go busking again. That's what they did upon releasing their 12th album a year ago and with chief songwriter Nolan Angell tapping into a seemingly endless well of inspiration, it won't be their last long player. Their upbeat, friendly guitar sound is again on show here with It Aint Worth It, while The Godfather's Lament references Angell's favourite pastime after surfing – watching The Godfather trilogy. Give it a spin, they'll pull you back in.
