Spotify Tests a Story Feature For Some Playlists

A little over a week after Twitter rolled out its disappearing tweet feature, or “fleets,” Spotify appears to be joining the party. The music streaming service has begun testing a story-like feature for select playlists, including Christmas Hits and a playlist for Megan Thee Stallion‘s Good News.

These stories, which function in a similar swipe-through format to those on other platforms, include video clips of artists speaking on their songwriting process and other exclusive anecdotes on the music included in the playlist. As it stands, this feature does not allow users to add stories to their own playlists.

In a statement to Endgadget confirming the test, Spotify explained that it regularly tries out new elements to improve its platform. “Some of those tests end up paving the path for our broader user experience and others serve only as an important learning. We have no further news to share on future plans at this time,” a spokesperson said.

It makes sense for Spotify to take steps enhancing one of its flagship features. HYPEBEAST recently examined how Spotify’s playlists became a market-defining phenomenon for artists, labels and the industry at large.
