Folk Singer Hana Horka has died after purposely catching coronavirus, her son has confirmed.
The 57-year-old musician from the Czech Republic died on Sunday after testing positive for the virus.
Her son, Jan Rek, said she got infected on purpose when he and his father had the virus, so she could get a recovery pass to access certain venues.
Mr Rek and his father both caught Covid over Christmas, despite being fully vaccinated.
However, his mother had decided not to stay away from them, preferring instead to expose herself to the virus.
Jan told the BBC: "She should have isolated for a week because we tested positive. But she was with us the whole time."
Proof of vaccination or recent infection from the virus is required in the Czech Republic to gain entry to many social and cultural venues, including cinemas, bars and cafes.
She had wanted to catch Covid so there would be fewer restrictions on her movement.
On Friday, Horka wrote in a social media post that she had intentionally contracted the disease and claimed that she was recovering.
"I survived… It was intense," she said in the post two days before her death.
"So now there will be the theater, sauna, a concert… and an urgent trip to the sea. Life is here for me and for you too."
Several of her followers appeared to support her actions but Hana died just hours after her post due to COVID-related complications.
Following his mother's death, Jan slammed the Czech anti-vax movement on social media, blaming them for the loss and claiming they had "blood on their hands."
His mother often shared the claims of Czech anti-vaxxers on her platforms.
"I know exactly who influenced her… It makes me sad that she believed strangers more than her proper family," Jan said.
"It wasn't just total disinformation but also views on natural immunity and antibodies acquired through infection."
Jan said he and his father had made several efforts to convince his mum to get vaccinated but the pair were unsuccessful, Radio Prague International reported.
