Simon Cowell ‘nearly paralysed and is lucky to be recovering at all’ after fall

Simon Cowell was nearly paralysed after falling off his new electric bike while at his LA home, according to friends of the X Factor mogul.

Cowell, 61, was raced to hospital earlier this summer after the horror fall left him needing emergency surgery.

A friend of Simon's said: "He definitely no longer feels invincible and this has been a wake up for him about his health and lifestyle.

"He was nearly paralysed and feels lucky to be recovering at all."

Sources add to The Daily Mail that the fall has made Cowell reevaluate his life.

A source told the publication: "The fall was of life-changing seriousness.

"Some in his circle think it might even make him think again about making a commitment of marriage to Lauren. ‘Never say never'."

Reports claim that Simon's recovery is "taking longer than expected".

He initially had hoped he would be able to return to the UK for the Britain's Got Talent semi-finals and final but doctors asked him to rest at home in Malibu.

Speaking in August an unnamed friend revealed Cowell was in unimaginable pain after the incident.

A source told The Mirror: "I spoke to him before the surgery and he was in incredible, ridiculous amounts of pain and also in shock. His back was broke in several places, but he is actually very lucky.

"He fell flat on his back and the doctors say the impact missed his spinal cord by about a centimetre and it could have been a lot, lot more serious.

"He was in surgery for six hours and they had to put a metal rod in his back and fix a number of things. He is recovering in hospital now and we expect him to be there for a few days and then he will take things from there.

"It is too early to say when he will be back on TV."

A rep for Simon Cowell has been contacted by Daily Star Online for comment.
