It’s been more than a quarter century after the release of Wayne’s World, and Mike Myers is still not worthy. At shock rocker Alice Cooper‘s concert at New York City’s Beacon Theater Thursday night, the actor stepped onstage in a black T-shirt and a green trucker hat at the end of the encore, “School’s Out,” and reenacted the famous bow he and Dana Carvey did in the movie for nearly a minute straight. The actor’s “excellent” appearance happens at around 6:50 in the video above.
Myers had been stage left for the whole concert taking video on his phone, including lots of footage of “Feed My Frankenstein,” the performance featured in Wayne’s World. In the 1992 movie, Myers’ and Carvey’s characters get backstage passes to see Cooper on the musician’s Hey Stoopid tour. After the show they chat with the rocker for a bit, learn about the history of the word “Milwaukee,” and collapse on the floor, fanning him chanting “We’re not worthy!” until Cooper extends his hand like a king or an emperor to them for them to kiss it.
In a 2014 interview, Myers explained how Cooper’s manager, Shep Gordon, held him over a barrel to get a then-current single featured in the movie as opposed to “School’s Out.” “He said, ‘I know you start filming in two weeks and have no alternative,’” says Myers. “I was like, ‘Wow.’” They became friends shortly thereafter.
Cooper, who last week released the live album A Paranormal Evening at the Olympia Paris, is currently on tour in North America supporting his most recent album, 2017’s Paranormal. He pulls out all stops on the trek, including using his guillotine, escaping a straight jacket and showering the front row with “Billion Dollar Babies” cash. The current leg of the tour runs through October ending just in time for Cooper to celebrate Halloween.
