See King Leg’s Hazy ‘Another Man’ Video

King Leg cruises the City of Angels, from waterways to freeways, in the dreamy, sun-smeared video — shot with the help of mentor Dwight Yoakam — for his song “Another Man.”

Released on the L.A. transplant’s 2017 LP for Sire Records, Meet King Leg, “Another Man” boasts a gentle melody that rolls and ripples beneath its rumination on fading dreams and the narrowing of time. The new video, co-directed by Yoakam — who produced the album — and Gregory Alosio, pairs the music with grainy, handheld footage of King Leg, playing guitar on a boat, which at first sits in a marsh and then gets towed on a trailer driving through the city.

Embedded in the frailty of “Another Man” is the journey of King Leg — the real-life Bryan Joyce — to California in 2016, where he reignited his own music career. “Los Angeles thrives on the fuel of dreamers. The song ‘Another Man’ appeared as the dust of life settled around me in what felt like wasted years and a flurry of foiled plans,” says Joyce, referencing the song’s refrain. “Songs like ‘Another Man’ opened doors to dream a new dream, which brought me to the land of dreamers.”

The filming of the video itself was tinged with its own ring of sadness. “The video for this song was aptly, and tragically, shot on what was perhaps the worst day of the November 2018 wild fires in Southern California,” Joyce says. “The smoky haze filled the sky from the L.A. fires that day — a reminder of the precariousness that encapsulates our daily lives.”

King Leg makes his first appearance at Stagecoach Festival in Indio, California, on April 28th.
