Roman Kemp recently landed a huge interview with the biggest boyband on the planet – BTS. But questions were raised after the interview seemed to vanish into thin air.
The K-pop kings were supposed to be heard chatting with Roman on Capital Breakfast earlier this month – except the interview was pulled from the schedule at the last minute.
It followed a backlash from BTS’s hyper-loyal fan base, aka the ‘Army’, when they found out that Roman was conducting the interview.
The popular DJ had previously called BTS’s collaboration with Nicki Minaj “noise”, and hit the headlines in May by saying the band hadn’t found its place on UK radio yet, asking: “Are they there for the music, or are they there for what the kids look like?”
In a move to make amends, he apologised on Twitter if any offence was taken, and pleaded with BTS fans to stop sending abuse, revealing his loved ones had also been sent nasty messages.
Speaking to Digital Spy at the Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards, Roman explained his side of the story.
“The interview never went out because we didn’t deem it necessary,” he said. “It got very personal for me and the second my mum was involved and my girlfriend was involved, I want to step away from that.”
He went on to say that Capital backed him 100% following the controversy.
“Capital were very supportive of me,” he went on. “It created a realm of something I hadn’t been aware of and there comes a point where someone has to go ‘enough’.
“I don’t want my mum receiving messages so I’d rather just stop it there. Nothing is worth it, you know? When it’s your mum, it’s your mum.”
