Nicki Minaj announces she’s retiring in career move that stuns fans

Nicki Minaj took to Twitter this evening to announce she's going into retirement.

The curvaceous beauty addressed her 20.5million followers in a heartfelt post.

She penned: "I’ve decided to retire and have my family. I know you guys are happy now.

"To my fans, keep reppin’ me, do it ’til da death of me, in the box – cuz ain’t nobody checkin me.

"Love you for life. [sic]"

Understandably, Nicki's post was inundated with a flurry of comments from her devastated fans.

One disappointed follower said: "Don't leave us, sis."

While another continued: "Nicki, stop this ain't funny. I'm not prepared for this."

A third added: "We love you queen."

The news comes just a few weeks after Nicki said she'd be married soon to boyfriend Kenneth Petty.

Speaking on an episode of her Queen Radio Show last month, Nicki said she and Petty "filed for the marriage license and we still had to pick it up and I was traveling, by the time I came back, we had to renew it again."

"From that time, you have 90 days to get married. That was about a week ago, so now I have about 80 days," she said on the August 12 programme."

The 36-year-old said she and Petty would be having a low-key ceremony due to their busy schedule.

She said: "I have to work on my album and I have a lot to focus on that I don’t want to do the big wedding now.

"We’ll do the big wedding late."

Nicki has enjoyed an illustrious career in the music industry with a wealth of hits under her belt.

Minaj released her first debut album Pink Friday in 2010, after signing with Young Money Entertainment in 2009.

The album peaked at number one in the US Billboard Charts, and was ultimately certified triple platinum.

Her second album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded (released in 2012), also hit the number one spot in several countries.

Nicki has won numerous music accolades, including six American Music Awards, 11 BET Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, four Billboard Music Awards, a Billboard Women in Music Rising Star Award, and 10 Grammy Award nominations.

The bootylicious performer, who was known for her use of alter egos and accents, also starred in a number of films.

She made her movie debut in 2012's Ice Age: Continental Drift, she then went onto appear in other movies such as The Other Woman (2014) and Barbershop: The Next Cut (2016).

Aside from her music and film successes, Nicki also hit the headlines for her feud with fellow female rapper Cardi B, 26.

The pair allegedly got into a row at New York Fashion Week in September last year, with Cardi reportedly confronting Nicki about "the lies she had been spreading".

Cardi recently addressed the supposed ongoing feud on social media and said: "I’m tired of talking about it too.

"I’m tired of the f***ing whole internet s**t.

"I’m tired of the interview s**t.

"If you really wanna talk about it, you know where to link me. … We can talk about it, or we can fight it out. I’m with whatever."

Nicki responded by claiming Cardi had never written any of her verses.

We wonder what Cardi will have to say about Nicki's retirement?!
