Lauv Once Cracked His Game Boy by Smashing His Head with It

Lauv is one of pop’s biggest and brightest rising singer-songwriters. But did you know he was also a really strange kid?

Don’t believe us? Hear it in his own words: “I was the worst video-gaming kid. I had this crazy temper. I would bite my controllers. Bite them.

Lauv brings up his peculiar childish tendencies in the latest episode of Vs. The Year, during which he takes on trivia questions about pop culture from 1994, the year he was born. “How am I supposed to know shit about the year I was born?” Lauv laments. “Because I was zero years old.”

Keep reading to see how well he fares.

On game consoles:

After correctly guessing the name of the popular game console that debuted in 1994 (PlayStation, duh), Lauv reveals this charming anecdote. “I had this crazy temper. I would bite my controllers. Bite them,” he says. “Like, I’m talking teeth marks through everything—you know the little handle sections—just teeth marks. It was really weird.”

It doesn’t end there! “I actually had a Game Boy once that I smashed into my own head and it cracked the screen. I was a strange kid.”

On Friends:

Friends is a sitcom that everyone—whether they like it or not—knows about. But, in 1994, it was just a new show premiering on television.

Lauv correctly guessed the name of the series but had some trouble naming all the show’s six main characters.

“Phoebe. Ross. Joey,” he begins. “Margaret Thatcher and Prometheus.” Close enough.
