AceShowbizJohnny Depp is reportedly set to make an unexpected appearance at the 2022 MTV VMAs. According to a new report, the 59-year-old “Pirates of the Carribean” actor will be dressing up as the network’s Moonman mascot at the upcoming award-giving event.

TMZ claimed that Johnny has been in talks with the show’s production team for the role. Additionally, he will reportedly “show face” at some point during the broadcast, which will be emceed by LL Cool J, Nicki Minaj and Jack Harlow on August 28.

Neither MTV nor Johnny has yet to comment on the report.

The “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” actor isn’t up for any awards this year. However, he has taken home five Moonmen statues throughout his career. That includes awards for Best Male Performance, Best Villain, Global Superstar as well as the Generation Award in 2012.

If the report is true, it will be the actor’s first award appearance after he won his highly publicized defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard. A Virginia jury found the “Aquaman” actress defamed Depp in a 2018 Washington Post opinion piece about sexual violence. She is ordered to pay him $15 million.

Following the victory, Johnny is gradually bouncing back to the industry. The actor, who exited “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” in November 2020, reportedly will direct a film about Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani in addition to producing the movie alongside Al Pacino and Barry Navidi. Johnny also signed a multi-year, seven-figure deal earlier this month to continue appearing as the celebrity face of Dior’s best-selling Sauvage cologne.

Meanwhile, the 2022 VMAs is set to offer show-stopping performances from its exciting performer line-up. Among those who will be taking stage at the highly-anticipated award-giving event are Lizzo, BLACKPINK, J Balvin, Anitta, Kane Brown, Panic at the Disco, Khalid and Marshmello.

Nicki Minaj will also perform at the upcoming event. The “Super Freaky Girl” femcee has also been chosen to be honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, which is the VMAs equivalent of a lifetime achievement trophy.

The 2022 VMAs will air live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on Sunday, August 28 at 8 P.M. ET.
